The Peak of True Martial Arts Recap
Nie Feng finds himself in a life or death altercation with pursuing enemies; In order to avoid being caught and possibly interrogated he chooses to fall off of a cliff. Unbeknownst to Nie Feng, he would find himself reincarnated in the past at age 16 where he relives his past struggles as a crippled/poisoned son of the Nie family Patriarch. With memories of his past life still intact, Nie Feng decides to go on a journey to right the wrongs done to him, his Father and close relatives. Will Nie Feng be able to find safety away from interal strife, noble family conflict and cultivation or will he fall behind?
Story & Characters: 6/10
Apart from Nie Feng and his Father, the other characters feel poorly developed and disposable. The story isn’t new and has been executed much better already; The events occur in chronological order and is in the form of an adventure opening the scope of Nie Feng’s world at 16 years old. A lot of conflict in the first few episodes occurs from familial conflict and other noble families plotting to end the Nie family’s reign. The action itself is very miniscule and instead there is a lot of reactionary internal monologues or colorful attack animations. In order to improve this series, I think giving Nie Feng a main overarching purpose of existing in the past would have been much better; At this point Nie Feng is hopping between scenes too fast that I couldn’t receive the characters well.
Art & Sound: 6/10
The art and animation is very low budget quality, it has a lot of smooth edges with low textures and you can tell the animation has been handled through keyframed timing. Not the worst I’ve seen but the action scenes could have been animated more dynamically instead of having quirky angles where the characters slide/attack.
Sound is above average, not the best quality voice acting or background music but it is a passable listening experience.
Overall & Enjoyment: 6/10
The story hasn’t developed yet but I would like to see more teamwork and Nie Feng making friends/comrades because it is already repetitive to see noble/spoiled small-fry characters intervening and challenging Nie Feng because of his previous crippled status. Even a partner that Nie Feng relies on and their strength growing as well as their reputation.
